Felicia’s motivation to volunteer for IACIS is centered around her desire to give back to a field that she unexpectedly fell in love with. She was one of the first graduates from her university with a degree in Computer Forensics and tries to give back to the university when she can, but her options are limited without a Master’s degree. Ultimately, she wants to teach but finding time to obtain a graduate degree has proven difficult. Several years ago, when a few students said they looked up to her for being a strong female role model, she realized that it wasn’t just the victims of crimes she was helping and she began to look for a more fitting way to give back to the forensics community. After attending the BCFE course, it was clear that the best way for her to give back to the forensics community was to volunteer for IACIS to help guide others who have the same drive and curiosity in the field.
Felicia is currently a computer forensic examiner for a Maryland police department. Over the course of her 12-year career, she has had the unique opportunity of working not only for state/local law enforcement and the U.S. Federal Government, but for the New Zealand Police as well. Although her stay in NZ was short (about a year and a half), she feels the experience of working abroad has only made her a better examiner.
Outside of work, Felicia can be found taking her motorcycle around the country, photographing her adventures, or diving to the bottom of the ocean to swim with sharks. When the weather forces her indoors, she can be found baking a crazy 3D cake for her family and friends or working towards her next Practitioner level in Krav Maga. She loves to travel and explore and is always game for an adventure! Being born and raised in suburban Philadelphia, Felicia is somewhat of a cheesesteak snob and finds it mildly offensive when a restaurant claims to have an “authentic Philly cheesesteak” using provolone cheese. Provolone has its place in the culinary world but not on a Philly cheesesteak! Although she says she’ll try just about anything once, the thought of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane escapes her.
