Volunteer in Training.
Since starting his career in law enforcement 22 years ago, Farand (known by friends as “Waz”) went from road patrol to burglary detective to digital forensics. Now a Senior Special Agent with 17 years in DFIR, Waz can relate to the intimidating jump to digital forensics that is experienced by many of his peers who do not have a computer background. Waz finds reward in delivering curriculum that connects with people through the sharing of his real-life problems, successes, failures, and follies.
Outside of work and volunteering, Waz enjoys mountain biking, hunting, fishing, the culinary arts, and hiking. Capturing a hummingbird or storm with his camera easily brings him happiness. Waz is inspired by dinner scenes in Blue Bloods and also finds joy in transforming his homegrown peppers into a well-developed hot sauce. He cannot find anything better than topping off a day with binging The Office or It’s Always Sunny in Philiadelphia in the company of his wife and two dogs, Zero and Olive. Although a lover of the outdoors, Waz believes running for physical fitness is torture and no one in their right mind actually enjoys the activity. He feels that the same family who started running invented paddleboarding, of which he finds to bring pure agony and bug bites.
