Kathleen Shane – San Diego, CA, USA

Volunteer since 2008 as a Coach, Regional Manager, Division Admin, and Ethics.

Kathleen’s focus in her career was largely financial crimes and public corruption, but she always had an interest in computer forensics.  Her mentor, who at the time was an IACIS coach and instructor, encouraged her to pursue a position in the computer forensics unit.  And she listened.  After moving to the computer forensics unit, Kathleen was fortunate to work in a multi-agency digital forensics lab full of IACIS coaches and instructors.  Their mentorship and leadership paved the path for her to give back.  Immediately after receiving her CFCE, she began coaching and has continued to hold various roles in the organization.  She continues to be impressed that an organization this size is run on the strength of those that choose to give back and still provides what she believes is the best training in this field.

After serving 20 years in law enforcement, Kathleen retired and transitioned to the private sector.  She now manages the Cyber Investigations and Data Protection team at her current employer, where she is proud to carry the IACIS tradition with her.  Her team members all have (or will have) their CFCE and they also give back to IACIS by coaching.

Outside of work, Kathleen trains and competes in the sport of dog agility with her two rescue border collies.  She also volunteers for Arizona Border Collie Rescue (shameless plug), one of the largest border collie rescues in the US.  Hiking and paddle boarding bring her joy as well.
